Why don’t we
start this article out by examining what a camping box is for those who may not
be aware of such a critter? A camping
box is generally a box that is utilized in the storage of one’s camping gear
when it is not in use. It can even be
constructed in such a way that it will be portable and when you want to go
camping, you just have to grab your box and take off.
Every
camping box will vary in size depending on your needs. The first step is to come up with a list of
all the items you’ll need for a typical camping trip, this will help you decide
on the size of your box. You will find
here the directions to make a basic camping box, but you can personalize it and
add compartments where and as you see fit. This is a customizable box.
The first
part of any project is to gather
the materials that will be necessary to complete the project at hand. For this particular one you will need 2 hinges, wood screws 3”, 12’ corner molding, 1x2’’ stock board, a table saw, C clamps, a Dremel, a miter saw, wood screws 1’’, 4x8 plywood sheet, 24’ flat molding, putty or wood fill, fastener for the corner, a drill and sand paper.

What to do with the materials
First you
will cut the plywood. You need six
pieces. 2 of the pieces should be 2’x2’
and 4 should be 4’x2’. You will need the
corner molding cut to fit these and use the tack nails in connecting the
corners of the larger pieces. DO the
same thing with the short pieces on the sides that do not have corner
molding…forming the shape of a box. Once
you have the box shape formed, miter saw the corners to mesh with each
other.
Now step
back and take a minute to decide where you want the 4’x2’ pieces of plywood to
go into the box. These will act as
dividers to keep your gear in specific compartments. When you decide where you want them, put them
there, use the corner molding and miter the corners to fit.
Use a piece
of the plywood for the top of the box.
Put the hinges on so that you are able to open and close the box and
again miter the corners and you are almost finished. Now you need to sand the entire box inside
and out. If you want it painted then paint
it.
See how easy
that was?
