Five Common Wedding Favor Mistakes

Finding the perfect wedding favor can become quite a hassle. Not only do you have to find a favor that ties into your theme, you have to make sure it fits your budget as well. A wedding favor is an expression of your appreciation to the guests, so it is important to take the time to choose the perfect gift. Here are five common wedding favor mistakes that people make:

1.     Not personalizing the packaging – Anyone can go on the Internet and purchase pre-packaged wedding favors. However, your guests will appreciate it more if you take the time to personalize it. For example, you can tie a personalized ribbon around the wedding favor boxes or attach a homemade “Thank You” tag.

2.     Not getting the right amount of favors – First you need to figure out whether you will be giving one favor to each guest or a favor to each couple. Then assume that about 80-90% of your guests will show up. Make sure to have some extra as well. It’s better to have too many than not enough.

3.     Buying favors that aren’t useful – Think beyond just the attractiveness of the favor. Is the item useful? Candles, measuring spoons, bottle openers, and shot glasses are some great options. If these items are out of your budget, consider filling colorful wedding favor boxes with sugarcoated almonds, Hershey’s kisses, or other candies.

4.     Spending too much money – While you want the best for your guests, keep your budget in mind when choosing a wedding favor. If you only have a small amount of guests attending, paying $4 a favor wouldn’t be too much. However, if you have over 100 guests coming, opt for a less expensive wedding favor.

5.     Waiting too long to order – With all of the things you need to do for the wedding, the favors might not seem so important. However, make sure to order the favors a couple of months in advance. The reason for this being that it may take a while for the items to be delivered. Also, you may not like the favors and may want to return them and purchase something else. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to your wedding.
